Ragnar Klavan is closing in on a move to Cagliari after Liverpool accepted a £2m offer for the defender.

Klavan will fly to Italy in order to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms with the Serie A side in a bid to seal a transfer before Friday's Italian transfer deadline.

The Estonian joined the Reds from Augsburg in 2016 and has made 53 appearances during his time on Merseyside.

However, his playing time at Anfield looked set to be severely restricted this season, with Joe Gomez in line to play more games in his favoured centre-half position.

Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren also remained ahead of the Estonia international in the pecking order.

With Klavan set to turn 33 in October and keen to end his career playing regularly, Jurgen Klopp elected to personally sanction a departure one year prior to the defender's Reds contract expiring.
