Railway Workers Across UK Strike to Protest Working Conditions

More than 40,000 UK railway workers went on strike on Wednesday, July 27, after contract negotiations came to a halt, according to the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT).

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said the union’s members were striking for a “decent pay rise, job security and good working conditions.” Lynch also said that the RMT would continue conversations with train operating companies to reach an agreement.

This footage posted to Twitter by user Natasha Harpley shows protesters gathering outside the Norwich Railway Station with banners that read “Defend Rail. Jobs. Pay. Conditions.”
