Rain alert issued for Leicestershire with warning of potential flooding
A yellow rain alert has been issued for Leicestershire, along with a warning that flooding is possible for some. The conditions could lead to travel disruption later today, the Met Office has said.
The warning covers the whole of Leicestershire, as well as vast swathes of the UK, stretching from Truro to Whitby. The alert comes into force from 3pm today (Monday, July 15) and will be in place until early tomorrow (Tuesday, July 16).
Heavy rain is expected to hit Leicestershire this evening according to latest forecasts. The Met Office has warned that the yellow alert could lead to “localised flooding” in some areas.

Prior to that, light rain is expected to fall across the county, but it is the heavier downpours that are expected to cause some problems. The Met Office says that this evening’s heavy rain could “lead to difficult driving conditions” from spray and flooding. Some road closures are also possible.
Forecasters have also warned that between 15 and 20mm of rain may fall “in less than an hour” in some areas, but have not specified where. They have also warned that the heavy rain could come with a “risk of thunder” for some.
