Rain Lashes New Orleans Suburb as Hurricane Ida Approaches

Rainfall lashed Terrytown, a suburb of New Orleans, Louisiana, as Hurricane Ida approached in the early hours of August 29.

This video, posted to Twitter, shows rain battering a suburban street as it blows at an angle across the ground.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Ida had been upgraded to a Category 4 Hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of around 150 mph.

“Life-threatening storm surge inundation is expected today along portions of the coasts of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama,” the NHC said.

Ida is predicted to make landfall on August 29, the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, which killed 1,833 people and caused over $100 billion in damage, according to the New York Times. Credit: @tv_jessica_ via Storyful
