Rainstorms Roll Over Western Australia After Long Dry Spell

Many residents of Western Australia rejoiced on January 17, when thunderstorms moved through the region, following a long period of drought.

When Western Australia resident Chris Lewis heard news of expected rainfall earlier this month, he immediately got in his car to chase the predicted storms.

Lewis drove to Yalgoo, in the Murchison area, to record footage of a lightning storm and the wet landscape the next day.

Many regions across Australia have seen a lack of rainfall over the past seven years, with almost all of New South Wales being affected by drought, and about two thirds of Queensland.

“We’ve had a very long dry spell out here, so to see the rain come through was just glorious,” Lewis told Storyful. Credit: Chris Lewis via Storyful
