Rainbow Flag Unfurled at Munich Town Hall Following UEFA's Stadium Snub

A rainbow flag was unfurled from Munich’s Town Hall on June 23, after UEFA turned down a request from the city for the Allianz Arena to be lit up in its colors ahead of Germany’s Euro 2020 match with Hungary.

The request came in the wake of legislation passed in Hungary restricting the sharing with minors of content portraying homosexuality. UEFA said that due to the “the political context” of the request, it “must decline.”

Munich’s mayor, Dieter Reiter , called the decision “shameful” and promised the flag would fly at the town hall. He posted video of its unfurling on Facebook. Credit: Dieter Reiter via Storyful
