Rainham Fire: Huge Blaze At Pallet Yard

At least 80 firefighters have been battling a huge fire at a pallet yard in east London.

Twelve crews from London, Essex and Kent were called to the site in Rainham shortly before 8pm on Tuesday.

A large stack of pallets and an outbuilding were understood to have caught fire but London Fire Brigade said the team was able to protect a nearby farmhouse.

Station Manager Colin Parker said: "When crews first arrived they noticed that alongside the pallet yard was a large farmhouse which was in danger of being set alight.

"Quick thinking crews aimed jets at the farmhouse to protect it from the blaze."

London Fire Brigade tweeted late on Tuesday night: "Steady progress is being made at the #Rainham pallet yard fire but this is likely to be a protracted incident."

Locals were warned to close windows and doors due to the large quantity of smoke.

The cause of the blaze remains unclear.
