A ramen pop-up is opening at a former bistro on Bedminster's East Street next month, running up until Christmas. Tomo No Ramen will launch its pop-up at Lucky Strike, where the former bistro's kitchen will be taken over by the Tomo team and serve up two versions of its traditional ramen, a new gyoza menu, and some Japanese twists on classic desserts.

The team at Lucky Strike, which closed its doors at the beginning of the month, will provide a 'fun' cocktail menu to accompany dishes, and the team says that the ramen style will match the retro interior of the bistro, drawing from the Shōwa era of mid-Century Japan. It will use a light chicken stock, soy broth and slices of torched pork belly.

Meanwhile, a vegan option will consist of kombu seaweed, shitake and porcini stock, soy broth, and will be topped with braised tofu. New for the pop-up will be two kinds of gyoza - garlic chicken and chives, or a vegan mushroom option - and sweet treats will include a smoked tea crème caramel, and a miso chocolate pudding.

James Stuart, owner of Tomo No Ramen said: “I'm so excited to be bringing our ramen to East Street, an area I grew up around. It has changed so much in my lifetime and I can't wait to see what's next.

"Our regular customers will enjoy the new concept we've developed alongside the talented Lucky Strike team, and I hope South Bristol residents will take advantage of our new proximity!”

The drinks menu will consist of 'kitsch' Japanese-inspired cocktails, like Umeshu plum wine Negronis, Milk Tea Old Fashioneds and Lucky Strike's Melon Float, alongside beer from On Point Brewery, made just on the other side of East Street. Tom Montgomery, owner of Lucky Strike said: “I’ve loved visiting Tomo No Ramen since it opened, and I’m thrilled to invite James and his team down to East Street to serve their wonderful food.

"We’re going to draw on some of the cocktails we made at Lucky Strike, such as the Melon Float, to complement the dishes, and we can’t wait to serve our regulars again, as well as the new additions to East Street!”
