It's always worth checking your coin collection as there could be a hidden gem hiding somewhere.

Certain pieces are worth an absolute fortune, take the Kew Gardens 50p which can set you back an eye-watering £250 if it's uncirculated. The coin is often popular as there's only 210,000 of them out there.

But now we're not talking about the piece which marks the iconic London landmark - thanks to TikTok user @coincollectingwizard, another pre-decimal UK coin comes with a mintage of only 166,000.

In a recent video online, they said: "Half crowns from this date have 92.5% silver in them too, which means it will also hold a silver value too."

The half crown, a British coin valued at two shillings and six pence, has been around since 1549. They added: "So if you are lucky enough to find a half crowned dated 1905 then you are looking at £9,000 in uncirculated condition.

"Even if the coin isn't the best quality, it can still sell for £500, £1,500 and even £4,000 so it really does depend on the condition with the one."

This revelation captured the attention of many, racking up hundreds of views and likes. Enthusiastic viewers engaged with the content, as one said: "Great video mate," while viewers inquired about other coins that could be hidden gems.

In other news, Star Wars fans could find a rare Millennium Falcon in their change as the Royal Mint launched new coin this month.

The new Iconic Vehicles collection boasts reverse designs inspired by legendary spacecraft from the blockbuster sci-fi franchise. The first in this exciting series highlights the famed Millennium Falcon – available in standard or coloured versions – and has a lenticular feature depicting the Rebel Alliance 'Starbird' logo.
