Rare muscle car owned by Bruce Willis and Jay Kay to go under the hammer

A 1968 Dodge Charger is heading to auction next month. A rare 'Bullitt' edition model, it's freshly repainted and benefits from a recent engine rebuild. It can also claim links to two very famous previous owners – none other than silver screen star Bruce Willis and Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay.

The Charger was purchased in 1998 for Willis by his wife at the time, Demi Moore. Just over a decade later, Willis sold it to Jay Kay, who remains the vehicle's current owner.

Fitted with a monstrous 8.2-litre engine, performance is impressive given the vehicle's age – Dodge quoted 375bhp at the time, good for a 0-60mph sprint of under seven seconds. That power is put to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic gearbox.

Supplied with what the auction house calls 'a comprehensive history file', the Charger went through a full engine rebuild in 2014 – at a price of £25,000. That should hopefully ensure the car's mechanicals are in as fine shape as the body and interior – both described as 'near-perfect'.

Silverstone Auctions, the house selling the car, calls the black paint 'imposing', and notes that the interior is remarkably original for the car's age.

Despite the celebrity provenance, the Charger isn't carrying a massive auction estimate. Silverstone Auctions gives a guide price of £50,000-£60,000, which is not a great deal more than a standard Charger in this condition would reach.
