Rare Tornado Warning Issued Close to Seattle

Strong, blustery winds buffeted Washington’s Kitsap County, close to Seattle, as a rare tornado warning was issued for the area.

Footage shot by Sierra Elvin in Bremerton shows high winds whipping through trees.

The tornado warnings were canceled after about 45 minutes, but the National Weather Service (NWS) in Seattle said the “threat of severe weather” would persist through the day. The NWS also reminded residents that “tornadoes can happen in the fall in Western Washington,” noting that damaging tornadoes struck Kent in 1969 and Port Orchard in 2018.
