Rav Wilding EXCLUSIVE: I got injured in the line of duty and I had no complaints

Yahoo Celeb sat down with ex-soldier and cop Rav Wilding to talk about his new show British Police Murdered on Duty and his previous experience on the blue line.

The former Crimewatch host is proud of his latest presenting job which saw him delve into three high-profile police murders, including the infamous Shepherd’s Bush murders, Dale Cregan’s murder of PC Nicola Hughes and PC Fiona Bones and the murder of PC Ian Broadhurst.

In the case of WPCs Fiona Bone and Nicola Hughes - who were ambushed by Dale Cregan, a thug with a Glock semi-automatic pistol and had a hand grenade at them, tragically killing both officers - criminologist Dr Elizabeth Yardley and colleagues of the policewomen bring Rav inside events that devastated a nation.

He explained: “In every one of these cases, it shows how quickly it can go from a mundane call out to a murder. That’s what we want people to realise, that these brave people up and down the country are doing an amazing job.

“He (Cregan) is in prison. As far as I’m aware the production team didn’t speak to him. I wouldn’t want to talk to him. What he did was pretty horrendous. We’re not exagerating anything.”

Given the 39-year-old TV star’s previous experience in the force as an undercover and plain clothes officer, there’s no better person to retell these stories.

He added: “I hate picking up the papers and reading negative stories about the police, not enough is made of the hard work and the dedication they put in to helping strangers. I will always have their back and say the positive things. I would love to carry on and do another series.

“I always miss the police, it’s something that was a great job, something that makes me so proud. Sometimes I see things and I wish I was dealing with that case.”

Is there enough support for police, who have been injured on the job? Rav believes there is.

He said: “I tell you what, I got injured in the line of duty and I had no complaints about how I was treated. I had quite a nasty car accident when we were responding to something on the blue line and we ended up having a really bad car smash and I was off work for a while with a head and neck injury and the police were brilliant, they really supported me, and when I was ready to come back to work I came back and that was the end of it.

“I’ve had so many other jobs where you don’t get that support from your employer, so I think in many ways the police really are there, they will not let someone go out until they are ready.”

British Police Murdered On Duty starts Friday 11th November at ‎10pm on Investigation Discovery, Sky 522, Virgin 253 and BT 324.
