Ray Davies has said that he will vote in the forthcoming General Election for the first time ever as it’s a ‘very important time’ in our history.

The Kinks frontman, 72, admitted that he has never voted in the UK before as he always been on tour.

“I've always been on tour. I managed to work it that way,” he said during an interview with Simon Mayo on BBC Radio 2.

The music icon said that he would be casting a vote on June 8 as the UK’s decision to leave the European Union has left everything ‘upside down’.

“Now I think I will. It's a very important time in our history,” he said. “I think it's going to be a time that we look back on as being a momentous occasion.

"We're doing something that's turning the world upside down."

Davies has just released his fifth studio album, Americana, which is his first record of new material in a decade.

He recently admitted that he already has more than 20 songs recorded for a follow-up album.

“It’s a big work, but I hope it’ll be put together for a deluxe record later on,” he said.
