Razzie nominations 2019: Donald Trump and Johnny Depp competing for worst screen combo

Donald Trump has received a nomination at this year's Golden Raspberry awards – almost three decades after he won the worst supporting actor Razzie for his appearance in Ghosts Can't Do It.

Trump's latest nomination is for worst performance by an actor in a leading role, for archival footage of himself in a pair of documentaries: Dinesh D'Souza's Death of a Nation and Michael Moore's Farenheit 11/9. First Lady Melania Trump is nominated for worst supporting actress, for her appearance in Farenheit 11/9.

The US president is competing against Johnny Depp, for Sherlock Gnomes, Will Ferrell for Holmes & Watson, John Travolta for Gotti and Bruce Willis for Death Wish.

Trump is also competing against Depp in the worst screen combo category, for himself and his "self-perpetuating pettiness" in Death of a Nation and Farenheit 11/9. Depp is nominated alongside his "fast-fading film career" in Sherlock Gnomes.

The 2019 Razzie Awards take place on 23 February, the night before the Oscars.
