RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner praises Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp as ‘best coach in the world’

RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner helped his team defeat Schalke 5-0 on Saturday evening, then afterward addressed transfer rumours linking him to Liverpool.

Werner, who is likely to lead the line for Germany at Euro 2020 this summer, scored one and assisted another to keep Leipzig in second place, just one point off Bayern Munich.

He has been continually linked to both those domestic leaders, Liverpool and Bayern, with many expecting he might make a major move at the end of the season.

After the game, Werner spoke about how the rumours were ongoing and repetitive, and praised the level that the english Premier League side have reached under their German boss – noting that his own approach would fit in well at Anfield.

“Last year, until I extended my contract, it was always Bayern Munich [that I was linked with],” he said to Sky in Germany.

“Now Liverpool has come up through the media and through our game in England. You have there the best coach in the world with Jurgen Klopp.

“There are many things that would suggest that my style of play might be a good fit, but I’m not worried about it because we have so much to do with Leipzig.

“You can see we won against Tottenham, but we also have a second leg. It’s hard to think about where to play next year if you want to step on the gas here and now.”

Werner has 21 Bundesliga goals this season for Leipzig, along with four in six starts in the Champions League.

The Independent reported earlier this month that Liverpool would only consider adding another forward if they accepted they would not be an automatic starter next season.
