Reacher confirmed to return for season 2 on Amazon Prime Video

Reacher has managed to reach far enough to grab a second season, with Amazon Prime Video confirming, just a few days after its first run debuted, that the crime thriller series will be back for more.

The series, based on the Jack Reacher series of novels by Lee Child, has received a second season order following the success of the newly-arrived season one, which is based on the first book in the series, Killing Floor, and stars Titans actor Alan Ritchson as the titular hero.

The news has been confirmed on Prime Video UK's official Twitter account, while The Hollywood Reporter is among the publications to share a statement by Amazon Studios boss Jennifer Salke about the renewal.

"The phenomenal debut of Reacher is a testament to Lee Child's creation of one of entertainment's most well-known heroes, [showrunner] Nick Santora's original approach to the storytelling, Alan's brilliant embodiment of the character, and the dedication of the talented people who worked tirelessly in front of and behind the camera to make such an undeniably binge-worthy series," Salke said.

"The global impact of Reacher makes it one of Prime Video's biggest series debuts, and we can't wait to bring fans a second season of their new favourite show."

Reacher sees decorated former US Army military policeman Jack Reacher arrive in the rural town of Margrave, Georgia, only to find himself suddenly embroiled in a recent crime, with the town dealing with its first murder in 20 years.

Almost as soon as he arrives in town, Reacher is arrested for the crime and he is forced to work to prove his innocence.

And when he discovers that there is a criminal conspiracy surrounding the murder, it looks like Reacher will have his work cut out in trying to unravel the truth.

Actor Ritchson has shared his own excitement about the renewal on Instagram, calling the season two news "incredible".

"Unlike Reacher who chooses to say nothing, I'm simply speechless," he wrote. "In just our opening weekend you've made #ReacheronPrime one of @primevideo most watched shows EVER! That is insane.

"There are so many people I'm grateful to for making this show as enjoyable as it is. But all of the creative genius and unwavering commitment by all those behind this would amount to nothing if you weren't enjoying the world of Reacher."

Reacher is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
