Reacher season 2 release date, cast, plot and everything you need to know

Reacher spoilers follow.

After a brief hiatus following Tom Cruise's take on the role, Jack Reacher is finally back on our screens. But this time, the screens are a bit smaller than before because Reacher now airs as a TV show on Amazon Prime Video.

Despite that, Reacher himself is bigger than ever now that Alan Ritchson has taken on the lead role. At 6 foot 2 inches, the Titans star is closer to the character's imposing 6 foot 5 from the books, and he sure does put that bulk to good use here in Reacher season one.

But what about Reacher season two? What's next for Amazon's Lee Child adaptation? Get your reading specs out and join us as we break down everything you need to know about Reacher season two on Amazon Prime Video.

Prime Video hasn't announced an official renewal for Reacher just yet, but given the scope of the source material, we wouldn't be surprised if season two is confirmed shortly. And if so, new episodes will likely arrive by early 2023, or perhaps summer 2023 if we're… reaching.

Reacher season one boasted a large cast including but not limited to:

  • Malcolm Goodwin as Oscar Finley

  • Willa Fitzgerald as Roscoe Conklin

  • Kristin Kreuk as Charlie

  • Harvey Guillén as Jasper

But given how the finale ended, it looks like the only cast member who's guaranteed to return is Alan Ritchson as Reacher himself. Unless, of course, some bizarre recasting shenanigans go on behind the scenes.

It's also possible that Maxwell Jenkins might return as a Young Reacher in more flashbacks, but if he ages up too fast, then the production team may consider replacing him for season two.

Reacher season one followed Jack's search for whoever killed his brother, and by the end of the final episode, the case is pretty much wrapped up.

With that mystery solved, Reacher decides to part ways with Margrave in search of something new, despite Roscoe's hope to the contrary. "If you wander back, give me a call," she says before handing Jack a Clark chocolate wrapper with her number written across it.

After he says his goodbyes, Reacher buries a medal (which has a great deal of sentimental value) in his brother's resting place. And then, wiping away his tears, Jack begins to hitchhike onto pastures new.

Season one is based on the first Jack Reacher book, Killing Floor, and although there are three prequels season two could draw inspiration from, the bulk of the season two story will likely be based on Die Trying, Lee Child's second Reacher book.

That novel kicks off with a surprise kidnapping where... oh heck, we don't want to spoil it for you. Just know that there's plenty of source material for Reacher to explore still in future seasons – 26 novels in fact.

It's not too much of a reach to suggest that new footage from Reacher season two will arrive in the weeks leading up to its arrival. So that will likely be in 2023, assuming of course that the show is renewed for a second season.

Reacher is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
