Jude Belingham’s fine start to his Real Madrid career continued during Saturday’s (September 30) 3-0 win over Girona.
Bellingham scored his sixth league goal in eight games as Carlo Ancelotti’s side returned to the top of La Liga. Bellingham had been one of the most sought after players in Europe over the last couple of years and his brilliant form for club and country so far this season has made him one of the most exciting players in world football.
The £88m man has come a long way in a short space of time since his Blues debut in 2019 and has already scored a number of late, winning goals for the Spanish giants.
Bellingham has been viewed as a huge midfield talent since his breakthrough season at just 16 years of age and he played a huge role in keeping Birmingham away from the drop in the 2019/20 campaign. In fact his role was so huge that the club even made the decision to retire his number 22 shirt when he departed for Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2020.
Following his goal at Girona on Saturday, the Madrid fans showed their appreciation for the England international, by giving him a new nickname.
Bellingham also produced a brilliant outside of the foot assist against Girona, reminiscent of his teammate and Real Madrid legend Luka Modric. Madrid fans responded to this brilliant bit of play by calling Bellingham ‘Luka’ on social media.
One Madrid fan wrote: “Jude Bellingham trivela assist just like Luka Modrić.”
Another said: “Luka Bellingham.”
After the game, Bellingham even admitted that his assist was inspired by Modric. He said: “I’ve been watching Luka every day for about three months. I just want to be creative.”
