Real Madrid have Kylian Mbappe 'plan' to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold amid clear Liverpool stance
Trent Alexander-Arnold's future at Liverpool continues to be the subject of speculation. The Reds vice-captain's contract is currently set to expire at the end of the season and it remains to be seen if an extension will be agreed.
Alexander-Arnold is a product of Liverpool academy at Kirkby and has progressed from a youth-team prospect to become one of the world's best right-backs. The 25-year-old was handed the vice-captaincy in 2023 following the departure of James Milner, with Virgil van Dijk wearing the armband after Jordan Henderson's exit.
Rumours have swirled for several months about Alexander-Arnold's long-term future at Liverpool. There have been reports that Real Madrid could be interested in signing the right-back in the event he leaves Anfield as a free agent.

The ECHO has put together some of the latest reports about Alexander-Arnold's future that have been doing the rounds in recent days.
Real Madrid 'interest' in Trent Alexander-Arnold
According to Spanish news outlet Sport, Real Madrid remain interested in signing Alexander-Arnold next summer in the event he fails to agree a new contract with Liverpool.
The report states that the La Liga giants will make an approach to Alexander-Arnold in January when he enters the final six months of his contract. However, the report does say that negotiations remain "ongoing" between Liverpool and the defender.
As things stand, Alexander-Arnold would be able to agree a pre-contract move to Madrid in January if he does not sign a new deal with Liverpool. The report went on to say that Real Madrid also want to sign Alphonso Davies on a pre-contract agreement next summer, with the left-back's deal with Bayern Munich also set to expire at the end of the season.
It has also been reported that Madrid could follow a similar plan to their previous deals which saw them sign Kylian Mbappe, Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba on free transfers.
Liverpool stance
Alexander-Arnold was heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid during the summer transfer window, with suggestions he could have left for a transfer fee had an offer been submitted.
The ECHO reported back in July that there was no interest from Liverpool's side in allowing Alexander-Arnold to leave before the season began or the transfer window closed. There has also been nothing to suggest that the 25-year-old himself is seeking a move away from Anfield.
With Alexander-Arnold now vice-captain of his boyhood club, the Kirkby academy graduate has also made no secret of his desire to one day wear the captain's armband for Liverpool in his career.
It has made clear, though, that Alexander-Arnold does not want speculation about his future to dominate the headlines and be played out in public. It's because of this that there have been, so far, no major updates regarding the right-back's long-term future.
