Former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has emerged as the early favourite to replace Julen Lopetegui if the Spaniard is sacked by Real Madrid.

Real have endured their worst start to a season in 17 years with a 2-1 defeat to Levante on Saturday their fifth game in a row without a win.

Los Blancos have lost to Alaves, CSKA Moscow and Sevilla and were also held to a goalless draw with Atletico Madrid, setting a new record for their longest goal drought in their 116-year history in that period.

Lopetegui, just 12 games into his tenure at the Santiago Bernabeu, finds himself under immense pressure with Radio MARCA reporting the Spaniard is “virtually sacked.”

Betfair place Conte as an early favourite to step into the hot seat at 6/5, with former Real Madrid player Santiago Solari just behind him at 6/4.

Solari, currently in charge of the club’s Castilla side, was linked with the role following Zinedine Zidane’s shock departure in June and has been described as the “main option” to replace Lopetegui by the Spanish press.

Arsene Wenger, without a club after leaving Arsenal at the end of last season, comes in at 5/1, with Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino placed at 25/1.
