Gareth Bale did not make the squad for Real Madrid’s trip to Saudi Arabia for their Supercopa de Espana campaign, which starts against Barcelona tonight.

Bale has recovered from Covid but Real boss Carlo Ancelotti has said a back problem is keeping him sidelined and it is unclear when he could be available for selection again.

“He has a problem with his back, which is a bit strained," said Ancelotti. “He is not feeling great, he cannot push 100 per cent. And until then he cannot be used."

Mariano Diaz is also missing from the Real squad due to a hamstring injury.
