Real reason Jules Hudson quit BBC Escape to the Country is revealed
Escape to the Country host Jules Hudson has spoken candidly about his decision to leave the much-loved series. The host said he faced a demanding schedule that caused him to be burnt out.
Jules, who said he needed a "creative and emotional" interval from the limelight, has made an unexpected move to some. He's recently indluged in manual craft by taking on a 12-week furniture-making course in Lyme Regis, reports the Mirror.
Speaking to the Lyme Regis and Bridport News, the 54-year-old presenter revealed the need for the career change. He said: "Late last year, I realised I was quite burnt out and needed a creative and emotional reset. It was a family discussion, and we are investing in our future."

Discovering the Boat Building Academy during an Escape to the Country episode back in 2012, Jules revealed his affection for the institution, admitting he "fell in love" with what it has to offer. Despite the pressures of career and home life, he prioritised his aspirations, saying: "It stuck in my mind, and I always wanted to return. But when you have a family and are working, life just moves on, and you go with it."
Jules also spoke of the value of personal time and urged others to pursue their ambitions for their own mental health's sake. He deemed the hiatus as the perfect chance for a "reset" focusing on embracing this period of reflection.
Despite leaving his role on Escape to the Country, Jules has said his exit is not permanent. The presenter, who joined the programme in 2007, said he will return at a later date. For now, he is enjoying a tranquil life away from the spotlight with his wife Tania Fitzgerald, their young son Jack, and two Labradors, Teddy and Lolo.
Speaking previously to the Express, he said: "I hope to do Escape to the Country for as long as I'm able and for as long as the show will have me. For me, country life is absolutely who I am and it's who I was before I came to present Escape to the Country. It's a massive step for lots of people, so having the chance to share that, that experience, those tips and tricks, it's very much a way of life for me. I absolutely love it, it's a show I'm incredibly fond of. It's very dear to me."
The television presenter prefers to keep his family life under wraps, revealing that they relocated from London due to its frenetic pace. In a conversation with The Times in 2020, Jules said: "I found London very claustrophobic. There's an energy about it that I absolutely love, but I need green fields and space."
