As London descended into tube strike related chaos earlier today, it’s almost certain that you would’ve heard disgruntled commuters claim that TfL workers shouldn’t be striking when they’re earning a comfortable wage.

But a TfL worker has penned an emotional Facebook post, in which he hits back at ‘accusations’ of being greedy, and claims that the strikes aren’t financially motivated at all.

Posting on Facebook, Mick Davey explained that the dispute was actually about the beginning of 24-hour weekend tube services on September, with workers being forced to work unsociable hours that could affect their family life.

‘I have never been opposed to Night Tube, but it has to be introduced in a way that is fair; that recognises that staff are human beings with lives and families as well as a job’, he wrote.

‘I have a family, I would like to see them at weekend, shift work already takes a lot of that away. TfL can offer as much as they want, I work to live, not live to work.

Outlining the night tube proposals in full, he added that all tube drivers would be forced to work a minimum of 14 weeks of nights every year.

Mr Davey also claimed that Tfl does not want to run a Night Tube service – but was forced to go ahead with the proposals, after they were announced by Mayor of London Boris Johnson.
