Yahoo News All the Reality TV shows returning this year and next
It's been a great year for TV so far and while Love Island is keeping us interested for now, what else have we got to look forward to on our telly boxes? Here is a comprehensive guide to all of the shows that will be back for more and some that you might never hear from again.
The Voice Kids: BACK
The Voice UK is a funny old series. In spite of rating well in its new ITV incarnation, it is still yet failed to create any stars whatsoever. Er, can you name any of the winners?
However, The Voice Kids, might have found a star already – Courtney Hadwin from last year's series has gone on to cause a sensation Stateside on America's Got Talent, receiving a Golden Buzzer and sending her straight through to the final.
Series two hits our screens in a month's time, and will see coaches will.i.am, Pixie Lott and Danny Jones returning in their spinning chairs.
"I am honoured to back on The Voice Kids, inspiring and sending kids on their way to do awesome stuff with their lives," will.i.am says. "Danny is amazing and Pixie is awesome. Pixie balances off the wild antics Danny and I have!"
Emma Willis is also excited about the return of the show. "I am so happy we will get to see all of those wonderful little people with massive voices who will no doubt melt our hearts all over again."
ITV are clearly keen on the show as they have just announced details for the 2019 series.
Big Brother: UNCONFIRMED
The grandaddy of reality shows is just about to return to Channel 5 and it is rumoured that there could be format changes to help give it a chance against ITV2's triumphant Love Island. Already it has been reported that Big Brother's Bit On The Side has been ditched in favour of the series' original spin off Big Brother's Little Brother, which will once again be presented by the mighty Rylan Clark-Neal.
It's also strongly suggested that this series could be the last on Channel 5 as the contract with Endemol comes up for renewal at the end of the year. Presenter Emma Willis has confirmed the show's future is still up in the air, revealing in April: "I don't know, we're all waiting. I think they're in negotiations at the minute. I'd hate to see it disappear. Fingers crossed we have a fantastic summer series and the channel want to keep it."
Channel 5 boss Ben Frow confirmed that the broadcaster will "not be spending the same amount of money" on the format and said: "The ball is in Endemol Shine's court".
Celebrity Big Brother: UNCONFIRMED
Don't worry, there's at least one more Celeb BB to go. Following hot on the heels of the civilian series in the second week of August, comes the mighty CBB. The theme for this particular show is supposedly about scandal and retribution. It's rumoured that celebs will go in and talk about things that they have done in the past and regret.
Among those tipped to be in the show are Chloe Ayling, Stormy Daniels, Queer Eye's Jonathan Van Ness, and The Chuckle Brothers
Strictly Come Dancing: BACK
As always around this time, rumours of contestants slowly emerging but the BBC always keep their stars close to their chests until launch night. However, Coleen Rooney is one name that is doing the rounds, as is Sam Faiers. Michelle Keegan was also rumoured to be taking part but she said recently she wasn't involved.
In early June, it was reported that the BBC had slapped a ban on letting reality stars appear on the show.
A source told The Sun: "Certain reality celebrities have been peddling these stories about being 'in talks' for the show when they have never been approached. Bosses are now fed up of hearing the same people bandying around their own names just to shift a few copies of some weight-loss DVD."
Meanwhile, the new series will be the first without pro Brendan Cole but viewers can mop up their tears as they welcome in gorgeous new pro-dancers Graziano Di Prima, Johannes Radebe and Luba Mushtuk.
The X Factor: BACK
As we all know, the show is undergoing yet another revamp in 2018 as the judging line up is being reconsidered. Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh are out, while Sharon O is returning just for the live shows. All manner of stars are in talks about joining her and Simon on the panel, including Rita Ora, Mel B, Alesha Dixon and most recently former contestant Saara Aalto, who has been a massive hit as a judge on the Finnish version of the series, although they might just be considered for occasional audition panels.
However, it is thought that Robbie Williams and wife Ayda could be the main judges. The occasional Take That star has even confirmed that he has already met with the show's producers.
"There is a lot of me that would love to do it too, but as it happens, people are talking, but there's nothing signed," he told Phil and Holly on This Morning. "Me and Simon and Lauren [Silverman] and the kids and little Eric hang out an awful lot and we talk about a lot of things. Nothing's signed, but, you know, watch this space, and of course it's on ITV and I promise you, if it's a go ahead and we do it, [This Morning] will be the first people I come and speak to about it."
Altogether Now: BACK
Earlier this year, this entertaining talent show attracted a regular audience of over three million viewers on a Saturday evening – which isn't bad in this day and age. The format was simple: one hundred members of the public (including Geri Halliwell) stand up if they like the vocal talents of other members of the public who step out on stage to bang out a classic song. Refreshingly, there was no promise of a future career in music. Instead, the ultimate winner would win money and return to their normal lives.
Pleased with the reactions to the first series the BBC have recommissioned the show and rumours have reached us that they are hoping to bring in a few familiar faces to try their luck against the panel. The show returns in the new year.
Celebs Go Dating: BACK
Filming is just about to start on the fifth series of Celebs Go Dating. Airing in October it will be the first series without dating coach Eden Blackman. However, Lady Nadia Essex will be back with her trusted receptionist Tom Reid Wilson.
Recently Nadia teased that the new series could be different to previous series telling OK!: "There's an opportunity at the moment. We've done four really good series and I think now there's an opportunity to look at what works, and what maybe doesn't, and refresh it," she said.
"In terms of going into the next series, we could make it something that's phenomenal," Nadia continued, before adding that the show has done its necessary groundwork. We've got the backbone, we've got the ground and I hope we use this opportunity," she said, mysteriously.
Change Your Tune: AXED?
Made by the people who brought us the amazing Davina McCall vehicle This Time Next Year, this 'talent' show presented by Baz Ashmawy was a ratings flop. The premise was simple; talent-free people with dreadful vocal ability come on and sing, prove just how bad they are, then return after six months of training to show off their new voice. Like This Time Next Year viewers experience a time lapse so all of this progression is seen in the one episode.
Sadly, the viewers were puzzled by the show with some taking to social media to ask if it was ITV's idea of an April Fool's joke and viewing figures were poor. Unsure about what to do with the show, ITV shifted the show around the schedules on a Sunday until it disappeared.
Although nothing has confirmed, a source from the show says it WILL NOT be returning.
I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here: BACK
As one of ITV's big hitters there is no doubt that the show will return to our screens this autumn. Whether or not Ant McPartlin will co-present with Declan Donnelly remains to be seen. Some sources strongly suggest that he won't be back so that he can fully recover, and it looks likely that Dec may front he show on his tod like he did with Britain's Got Talent.
You vs Kem and Chris: NEW
Love Island stars Chris and Kem have proved to be incredibly popular so ITV 2 have given them their own show which will involve them traveling across the UK in their pimped up "Bro Mobile" and testing their teamwork skills in various challenges.
Fans will send the fellas challenges via their social media channels – if they accept the challenge, they will go and meet the viewer where they will get to find out more details.
A show boss explained: "You vs Chris and Kem will see the boys continue their bromance as they tour the country together competing against the ITV2 viewers who have lured them into spontaneous, absolutely anything goes, toe-to-toe challenges."
It's also rumoured that Kem will front his own show which will involve him interviewing celebs.
Celebrity Apprentice: BACK
The Comic Relief version of this popular business reality show starring Alan Sugar returns to our screens in March next year but starts filming this summer. The first series that was screened back in 2007 featured Cheryl, Rupert Everett, Ross Kemp, Jo Brand and Piers Morgan, while the follow up in 2009 included Alana Carr, Gok Wan and Fiona Phillips.
This new series is set to feature Rylan Clark Neal, Amanda Holden, Robbie Williams' wife Ayda Field (wow, someone is determined to make her happen!) and possibly Gemma Collins.
Celebrity Masterchef: BACK
Everyone's favourite cooking show is back and looks set to thrill with a line up of reality veterans. Among the stars set to appear are Spencer Matthews (Made In Chelsea, I'm A Celeb, Five Star Hotel, The Jump, The Bachelor), Gemma Collins (TOWIE, I'm A Celebrity, Celebrity Big Brother, Celebs Go Dating, Who's Doing The Dishes, Splash) and John Partridge (Celebrity Big Brother, Tumble, Let's Dance for Comic Relief). Hang on a minute – where's Jake Quickenden?
Sadly, he hasn't made the show but other familiar faces who will be whipping up tasty morsels in the kitchen include Saturdays singer (and Strictly star) Frankie Bridge, X Factor and Union J's Josh Cuthbert, Strictly's AJ Pritchard, Holby City (and Strictly) star Chizzy Akudolu, 70s country singer Stella Parton, Radio 1's Claro Amfo, Lisa Maxwell, Jay Blades and loads more.
The show returns in the summer on BBC1.
Survival Of The Fittest: AXED?
After the success of last year's Love Island, ITV decided to milk it by coming up with a series for the winter. Sadly producers weren't as savvy as the Love Island bods and cast people who would have felt more at home on Ex On the Beach. Viewers were confused by the premise and ratings were poor, notching up around 300, 000 viewers, over a million less than its summer predecessor.
At the time of writing, ITV have said it is yet to be recommissioned
The Big Audition: NEW
This autumn, ITV launch a new major talent show called currently The Big Audition. Described as a "brand new factual entertainment series which goes behind the scenes of the casting world it gives real people the chance to audition in front of real casting panels for real jobs" it hopes to fill the gap left by shows like the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical shows like Any Dream Will Do.
However, the auditions will vary and could range from presenting, hand modelling, being a body double, a football mascot, featuring in a film or TV commercial, the new face of an ad campaign, you name it.
The show is due on ITV later this summer.
The Jump: BACK?
It was the most dangerous show on the box as celebs tried their luck on the snowy slopes of Austria. It was ditched this year to make way for the Winter Olympics and it is unclear when the show will return though it is believed that it is more than likely to return to our screens in January 2020. Jake Quickenden was a reserve on the 2017 series, so don't be surprised if you see him pop up on there.
Dancing On Ice: BACK
The show returned to ITV with healthy viewing figures this year but it's been reported that there could be changes on the show. Torvill and Dean will return but there is suggestion that they may move away from the judging desk and return to coaching the contestants. Ashley Banjo has hinted at his return while Kem, who proved so popular with viewers, may land a spot on the show in some capacity.
According to sources on Dancing On Ice, nothing has been decided as yet and celebs are currently being seen by producers. However, is believed that cricketer Monty Panesar will finally hit the ice next year after having to pull out with an injury this year.
My Shirley Valentine Summer: NEW
There's been a lot of talk about launching a Love Island for older folks – even LI voiceover dude Iain Stirling told Digital Spy how much he'd like to see older folks. Well, it looks like someone has been listening as apparently a new dating show is in the works that will see women over forty head to Greece for romance.
Creative director David Clews said the show will be a "warm, funny and heartfelt adventure", adding: "Their summer in the sun will be a jam-packed experience – discovering new passions and rediscovering themselves as they get to grips with local life and the local dating scene. 'This is going to be a wonderfully warm, funny and heartfelt adventure. Hopefully with some romance too."
Among the lovelorn women rumoured to be taking part are Nancy Dell'Olio, Annabel Giles, Aggie McKenzie, Ingrid Tarrant, Lizzie Cundy, Sian Lloyd and Melinda Messenger and Ninia Benjamin.
