Reason behind closure of busy Leicester road revealed

A busy Leicester road was closed this afternoon (Wednesday, November 20) after a lorry broke down in “the middle of the road”. Leicestershire Police said that major city thoroughfare Abbey Lane was closed in the citybound direction as a result of the incident.

A spokeswoman for the force said that the road had to be closed after the lorry broke down “blocking traffic”. The road was closed between Corporation Road and Exploration Drive for around an hour.

The incident was reported by the force at 1.19pm. The lorry has since been recovered.
