There will be a large police presence at a Nuneaton club today - but there is no need to be alarmed. Today (June 2) Nuneaton and Bedworth Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) officers are hosting a family fun day at Ambleside Sports and Social Club.

The highlight of the day is set to be an Olympics style event between a police team and teams from across the community. They will take part in an egg and spoon race, tug of war, a three-legged race and sack race and sprint relay and long jump.

For youngsters, there will be bouncy castles, face painting, small rides, and even wet sponge stocks. Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Hayley Wallwork of the SNT said the aim of the day is to bring the community together to enjoy market stalls, food and emergency service vehicles all while raising money for The Air Ambulance.

"They provide lifesaving care at road traffic collisions, industrial accidents, sporting events, cardiac arrests, stabbings, strokes and accidents within the home," PSCO Wallwork explained. "Any one of us could find ourselves in a position where we need the critical care that the Air Ambulance can provide.

"Having attended incidents where we have been supported by our colleagues at the Air Ambulance and seen firsthand the amazing job they do, we want to show our thanks and support in hosting this event and raising as much money as we can."

There will also be a prize raffle and the winners of a primary school colouring competition are set to be revealed. The event will run from 12noon until 5pm today.
