In a dramatic tweet, Rooney, who is married to former England star Wayne, recounted how she blocked all but one account from viewing her Instagram stories and then shared false information "to see if they made their way into the Sun newspaper."
She then claimed that Vardy's account was the only account which could view the stories.
Vardy, who is married to Leicester City striker Jamie, denied the accusations and said that "various people" have had access to her Instagram account "over the years."

Rooney's explosive tweet pinpointed three "false stories" which she posted on her private account as a test, all of which were later published by The Sun.
Here are the reports in question.
‘Basement flooding in my new house’
The most recent story of those listed by Rooney was published just hours before she accused Vardy of being linked to the leaked information.
The article claimed the Rooneys’ £20 million Cheshire home had been damaged by floods from Storm Lorenzo, which hit the UK last week.
It was alleged that the damage had set back the completion date for renovations being carried out on the mansion, with a source telling the paper: “Coleen knows it’s a problem that can be fixed but it’s still been massively stressful.”
Following Rooney’s tweet about the “leaked” stories, the online version of the article was removed from the Sun’s website but has since been re-published.
‘Returning to TV’
Rooney’s post also alluded to a report about her return to TV. While it is not clear exactly which story she was referring to, one published last month claimed that Rooney was ready to ‘revive her TV career’ and had even been in discussions with Strictly Come Dancing producers.
“Coleen could well do Strictly next year, but in the meantime has other TV stuff lined up,” a source claimed.
“It was not possible this year due to travelling back and forth from American but it cannot be ruled out.
“Coleen is also really passionate about doing fashion stuff, so that is where she will focus her efforts.
“A show is being lined up for ITV or Channel 4 and she is likely to design items on it.”
Rooney previously presented Coleen’s Real Women in 2008 for ITV.
‘Gender selection in Mexico’
A story dating from August claimed that Rooney flew to Mexico earlier this year to learn more about a gender selection procedure that would allow her to have a baby girl.
A source quote used in the story said: “Coleen loves her boys more than anything, but she’s never been shy about admitting she would also love a daughter.
“That would really complete the set for her and Wayne.
“But she has also said that if she does have another boy they would be happy.”
