Record-Breaking Rainfall Floods Far North Queensland

Far North Queensland was hit with torrential rain from Tuesday into Wednesday, January 29, causing mass flooding across the region. Meteorologists recorded 160 millimetres of rain overnight in Cairns.

According to reports, the Bureau of Meteorology said in a 24-hour period from 9 am Tuesday, 320 millimetres of rain fell south of Townsville, breaking a record set in 1998.
