Record snowfall blanketed areas of western and northern Japan and disrupted travel on Monday, December 27, NHK reported.
In Hikone, a small city in the central Shiga Prefecture, 68 cm (26.8 inches) of snow fell in the 24 hours up to 5 am Monday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).
