A recruitment expert shared her insider advice on how to answer a common interview question that often stumps job seekers.

Despite thorough preparation, job interviews can leave even the most poised candidates flustered, particularly when faced with seemingly straightforward queries.

On TikTok, 'Emily The Recruiter' has been serving up her essential guidance, revealing to her followers the ideal approach to a staple of interview questions.

With an audience of 642,700 watching, she explained: "When the recruiter asks, why should we hire you? This is specifically what you are going to say. Coming from a recruiter who knows her s***."

The seemingly innocuous question is often a pitfall for many, Emily argued, requiring an answer far beyond basic platitudes like "because I'm gonna be really good at this job," which fail to impress, pointing out the need for a detailed reply instead.

Delving deeper, Emily suggested: "You're gonna provide an answer that calls out the company, calls out the role, calls out your ambitions. It's gonna sound like this."

She then offered a response template: "When I saw Google was hiring for a senior recruiter role, I knew that I had to apply because I really aligned to your company's core values.

"Upon further research of the role, I realised I possessed all the necessary Excel and presentation skills. Considering my career growth, I believe Google is the ideal company for me to develop, learn from, and invest in. It seems like the perfect fit."

Although many appreciated Emily's advice, some felt a simple answer would be enough. One commenter said: "'I need money to live' should be an acceptable answer."

Another person expressed: "I'd be annoyed if I was asked this. They invited ME to interview! They already think I have what they need, why should I have to BEG to work for you! ?" Meanwhile, a third person shared their own successful approach: "'Because I'm delightful, and a pleasure to be around' - it has worked 100% of the time for me."
