Red Arrows at Royal International Air Tattoo 2019: Tickets, aircrafts and how to live stream

The Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) – renowned for being the world’s biggest military airshow – will return to Gloucestershire this weekend.

Taking place at the Royal Air Force’s (RAF) Fairford base, the event will feature 28 air arms from 20 different nations.

The main theme for the RIAT will be ‘Air & Space: Inspiring the Next Generation Air Force.’ It follows an announcement earlier this year that the RAF will be taking control of the UK’s military space operations, with special flypasts scheduled to take place to commemorate 50 years since the historic moon landing.

Keeping in line with the space theme, activities at the show will include rockets, astronauts and even a planetarium.

Andy Armstrong, Chief Executive of RAF Charitable Trust Enterprises, which organises the event, said: “As well as welcoming air arms from around the world, we plan to demonstrate, through engaging and interactive displays, how space technology is being developed and how it is being used to help counter threats to our everyday lives.

“Our focus on space will be particularly poignant as the 2019 airshow will take place on exactly the same day, 50 years ago, that the first Moon landing took place – on July 20 1969.”

Famed British astronaut Tim Peake, who will also be attending the airshow, said: “I’ve been wanting to attend the Royal International Air Tattoo for some time and this year’s space theme presented the perfect opportunity. I’m really looking forward to it!”

When is the RIAT?

The Royal International Air Tattoo will take place in Fairford, Gloucestershire, on Friday 19 – Sunday 21 July.

Which aircraft will be taking part?

On Friday, a special flypast will take place to commemorate 70 years of NATO. Aircraft taking part in the flypast include Belgian Air Component’s LM F-16AM, the German Air Force’s Eurofighter EF2000s, A400M and Tornado strike aircraft, the Royal Danish Air Force’s F-16 fighters, the United States Air Force’s F-15 aircraft from RAF Lakenheath and the Royal Air Force’s Typhoon Fighters.

Another flypast with the Red Arrows will feature a Boeing 747 aircraft which has been especially designed to mark the centenary of British Airways. The BA Jumbo will perform the flypast with the Red Arrows on Saturday only.

Can I get tickets?

Unfortunately, tickets for Saturday and Sunday have completely sold out. However, there are still tickets for Friday, which are priced at £57 each.

Under 18s go free with a paying adult.

Will the RIAT be live-streamed?

Yes – RIAT organisers are providing a live-stream service for £5.

This will grant you access to the live broadcast of the whole weekend plus a video on demand replay until Sunday 21 July.
