Harry Redknapp says it would be “hard to say no” to Tottenham if Daniel Levy asked him to take over until the end of the season.

The former West Ham and Southampton manager was Spurs boss for four years between 2008 and 2012 with Redknapp winning the Premier League Manager of the Year award in his first full season.

Despite leading Tottenham to their second fourth-placed finish in three seasons, Redknapp was sacked at the end of the 2011-12 season.

But, with Antonio Conte’s future at the north London club in doubt, Redknapp insists it would be “hard to say no” to a return to Tottenham.

“If someone asks you, I think it would be hard to say no, I’ll be truthful. When you love it, you do find it hard to say no,” Redknapp told talkSPORT.

When asked if Tottenham chairman Levy had been in contact with him, Redknapp replied: “No, definitely not, that has not happened.

“But you look at what you’re doing now, sitting around, having a game of golf, and it’s not the money, it’s the challenge, you love it, the buzz of it, winning a game is a fantastic feeling. It’s hard to say no.”

Conte heavily criticised his “selfish” players and Tottenham board at the weekend after his side threw away a 3-1 lead to draw 3-3 against Southampton.

And now there are reports that Ryan Mason is set to become interim boss as Spurs prepare to sack Conte over the international break.

On the possibility of working with Mason, Redknapp added: “With a young manager I often think that they don’t use older figures, but I think there is room for older people to go in with them and work with a young manager, even if it was only for a couple of days a week just to be around.

“They can bounce ideas off you – I think that’s important. It’s a lonely job and you need all the help you can get.”

The Daily Mail has claimed that Spurs chairman Levy is ‘ready to sack’ Conte this week ‘with internal discussions over the terms of his exit now underway’.

Conte will be ‘due in the region of £4million in compensation, excluding the money owed to his staff’ with ‘discussions over a potential severance package have now taken place at Tottenham, though there are no indications yet of what Conte might agree to’.
