There's new season sunshine in the air! And that means new season fashion too. I've been keeping my eye on the shops and the extra pieces that will make everything I own feel fresher, plus the new brands that deserve a place in our wardrobes. Now that most of us already have a good capsule wardrobe, the focus is more on those trend-led buys that make everything else feel modern (or the classic with staying power you haven't yet invested in).

My style is unapologetically nautical. I am not sure whether living by the sea came first or the other way around but those Hamptons vibes – striped trousers, a Breton, a nautical-inspired swimsuit – are always going to lure me in, so I've added my favourites below.

This summer I'm keen for a pair of gold flat sandals – which I think have true staying power for years ahead too because they make a great alternative to heels for holiday evenings, and I believe, actually look cooler with dresses and slouchy summer trousers.

Staying with the classics, I'm always updating my white dresses collection (how many is too many?), and this one from Reiss is particularly special – a beautiful shape (I love a square neckline) but simple enough not to date.

Onto the more whimsical stuff and first up is a logo sweatshirtthis one from Sporty & Rich will be great on a British beach when it gets chilly and neatly straddles sports luxe and everyday wear. A pair of striped shorts are also on my shopping list (to wear with an oversized white shirt) and a fun shopper feels like a great way to welcome in the season.

This cropped shirt from With Nothing Underneath is like nothing else I own and adds some edge to white shorts or jeans and I've got this amazing Essentiel Antwerp bodysuit tucked away in my summer box already, just waiting for an occasion to be worn...

The off-shoulder top

"A statement bodysuit, made for parties, weddings – and sunkissed shoulders. I love the exaggerated shape of this Essentiel Antwerp piece, which tucks neatly into trousers or skirts and is available in four different colourways too."

The pj pants

"This summer's trousers are loose and slouchy – inspired by real pjs, they feel a bit more day time in darker shades with bolder stripes."

The raffia bag

"I don't think you can ever go wrong with a raffia bag. For hats, sandals and summer bags, large and small. A great neutral, it will work with anything and everything."

The sandals

"A unexpected pop of red works in your wardrobe as well as everywhere else. I love the Frenchie feel of these strappy sandals."

The swimsuit

"As much as I want to wear bikinis, a one piece is my happy place. This one feels a bit nostalgic and '90s with a sporty edge – plus the stripes always win it for me."

The luxe denim

"If you haven't yet discovered Wiggy Kit's amazing denim, I urge you to invest. I have a version of these are they are the most flattering shape and incredible quality. The length means they're great with flats or heels."

The striped tee

"If you've ample Bretons already, a red and white stripe could be your next purchase. I love this on the beach over a bikini."

The summer shopper

"The Jacksons woven bags are what beach holidays were made for. In an array of colours, sizes and slogans, it's hard to commit to just one."

The chunky chain

"Oliver Bonas has some really great jewellery at the moment and I have my eye on this chunky necklace to bring a bit of glitz to an otherwise pared back outfit."

The linen blazer

"Tailoring is still big news for summer and a linen suit deserves a place in your wardrobe. Go classic with this one from Aspiga and you'll be pulling it out for years to come. "

The linen pants

"To wear with the jacket above, this suit is also available in a great shade of oatmeal."

The knit vest

"I love black and navy together so would wear this with the navy linen suit and gold chain necklace for some serious Chanel vibes."

The white dress

"I have lost count of how many white dresses I own, as they're my summer go-to. I'd still add this one to the mix, for its square neckline and flattering cut."

The gold sandals

"I've just got these for summer – I really like the elevated flip-flop feel with the toe thong and the Grecian criss cross around the ankle. A good evening alternative to a heel."

The cropped shirt

"With Nothing Underneath is my go-to for the perfect shirt – this is an update on their classic and the cropped shape looks especially good with high-waisted trousers."

The sweatshirt

"A good logo sweatshirt is a fun addition to a weekend wardrobe and Sporty & Rich are leading the way with their '80s style emblems. I'll be taking mine of the beach for chillier moments."

The striped shorts

"On my wish list for summer is some white boxer shorts – but I also love this more tailored pair with their deckchair-worthy stripes"
