From Town & Country

Big Little Lies fans, prepare for your next favorite series brought to life by the genius of Reese Witherspoon. Witherspoon is teaming up with Kerry Washington to produce and star in an adaptation of Little Fires Everywhere, Celeste Ng's best-selling book.

Little Fires Everywhere follows two families living in Shaker Heights, Ohio, where a dramatic custody battle over a Chinese-American baby tears the town apart. Here's what we know about the upcoming television adaptation.

The Show Has a Star-Studded Cast.

Witherspoon and Washington are, of course, starring in the series. Witherspoon is playing Elena Richardson, whose picture-perfect family is challenged by the arrival of mother daughter duo Mia and Pearl Warren. Washington is starring as Mia, while Lexi Underwood will play her daughter, Pearl. And Joshua Jackson is set to play Bill Richardson, Witherspoon's husband, according to TVLine.

Witherspoon announced the news on Twitter, writing "So excited to work with my friend." See the Tweet here:

Rosemarie DeWitt has also been cast as Linda McCullough, Elena's best friend who takes in an abandoned infant—until the child's biological mother arrives, per Deadline. Other members of the Little Fires Everywhere cast include Megan Stott, who is playing Elena and Bill's youngest daughter Izzy in the series, along with Jade Pettyjohn as Lexie Richardson, Jordan Elsass as Trip Richardson, and Gavin Lewis as Moody Richardson.

It'll air this spring.

The show will hit Hulu on March 18, 2020. In the meantime, fans can get a preview of Little Fires Everywhere with a trailer (above) and the cast's social media posts.

Back in May, Washington posted a photo on Instagram to share that production has already started. She captioned the photo: "The Warrens and the Richardsons have reported for duty! #LittleFiresEverywhere production is underway! Today we had our very first table read and it was kinda mind blowing!!!!!!!!!!!"

About a month after that, both Witherspoon and Washington shared the very first photo from the set on Instagram. The photo shows each actress in costume as their characters, wearing their 1990s-era ensembles. Witherspoon captioned her post: "Bringing it back to the '90s! Meet Mia Warren and Elena Richardson."

You'll Be Able to Stream the Series.

The eight episode season will air on Hulu, and will be produced by Witherspoon and Washington's production companies, Hello Sunshine and Simpson Street, respectively, along with ABC Signature Studios, according to Deadline. Both ladies are also serving as executive producers on the show, along with Lauren Levy Neustadter, Pilar Savone, and Lynn Shelton, per Variety.

This Is Just the Latest TV Project for Reese Witherspoon.

Witherspoon has become a major player in television in recent years, after bringing critical darling Big Little Lies to life on HBO. Currently, she's starring and producing the second season of The Morning Show for Apple TV, co-starring Jennifer Aniston and Steve Carrell, as well as executive producing an adaption of Daisy Jones and the Six, among other projects.

Washington, for her part, wrapped up her role as Olivia Pope on Scandal in 2018. Witherspoon and Washington joined forces on the project after both expressed interest in producing an adaptation of Little Fires Everywhere. They eventually brought in ABC Signature Studios, where they each have production deals, Deadline reports.
