Referee David Coote issues two-word response at his Nottinghamshire home amid suspension
Premier League referee David Coote issued a two-word response as he declined to comment on the situation following his suspension. The Nottinghamshire man is currently being investigated by the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) after he allegedly called Liverpool "s***" and the club's then-manager Jurgen Klopp a "German c***" in a video believed to have been filmed during the pandemic.
Days after his suspension on Friday, November 15, a Nottinghamshire Live reporter introduced themselves to Coote at his home address. Answering the door at his semi-detached cottage in a village near Newark-on-Trent, Coote made it clear he did not wish to comment on the situation.
Before any questions were asked, the referee, who was dressed casually, responded "absolutely not" before closing the door of the property, which is one of the smaller homes on the street, in a calm manner. Nottinghamshire Live has chosen has chosen not to reveal which village Coote lives in.
Coote has been a Premier League referee for six years, but his position could now be at risk due to videos being shared online. This includes the video of him allegedly slamming Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp, as well as another video which allegedly shows him snorting a white substance during his time at UEFA Euro 2024.
UEFA has appointed an ethics and disciplinary inspector to investigate the referee. The PGMOL has previously stated: "David Coote has been suspended with immediate effect pending a full investigation. PGMOL will be making no further comment until that process is complete."
