“Britain is broken, not your TV set”, Nigel Farage has declared after Reform UK put out an unprecedented silent party political broadcast.

The party broadcast a five minute message on Channel 4 which simply featured the words “Britain is Broken, Britain Needs Reform” against a black background.

Ahead of the broadcast on Thursday night the channel had to warn viewers in advance that the broadcast did not contain any audio.

It is thought to be the first time in British political history that a party has chosen to use a political broadcast which contained no sound or moving images.

Mr Farage said: “It was a brave decision but that is what Reform is all about. The gravity of the situation facing the UK meant we had to ring the alarm bell with a completely different approach; Britain is broken, not your TV set.”

The Reform leader has previously admitted that his party is cash-strapped, though he has said donors are flocking in as it enjoys a bounce in the polls.

But a party insider insisted the decision to broadcast the silent message had been motivated by a decision to “ram the message home” rather than money consideration.

They said: “No party has ever done this before. When we sent it to one of the channels they came back and said the video file was broken.

“They were gobsmacked when we told them that was how it was supposed to be. We deliberately took the maximum length to ram the message home.”
