Mother Mercy, a cocktail bar that has enjoyed immense success and acclaim in Newcastle, is set to open another venue on the city's outskirts.

The new location, which was previously a vape shop, will be situated in Heaton. Since its launch at the end of 2019, just before the Covid pandemic hit, Mother Mercy has become a go-to spot for those seeking expertly crafted cocktails.

Its Bigg Market location, formerly the Cellar Bar, quickly became a word-of-mouth success. The bar's popularity was further cemented when it won the Best Bar award at the ChronicleLive Newcastle Loves awards in 2022. It also recently made it onto a list of the UK's Top 50 Cocktail Bars.

The latest venture sees the thriving business expand to busy Chillingham Road, transforming the former Uptons Vapourium. They have already opened branches in Fenwick and Grey Street under the name Cafe Mercy.

The new Heaton branch promises an intimate cocktail experience, blending Mother Mercy's signature style with local charm - so for Teessiders who enjoy a trip to the Toon for shopping or drinks, this could be one to try. Guests can look forward to a carefully curated cocktail menu featuring seasonal ingredients, innovative flavours, and a focus on exceptional quality, reports Chronicle Live.

With around 40 covers, the new cocktail bar aims to be a welcoming destination. The stylish new bar in Heaton promises an interior that harmoniously combines the area's lively spirit with Mother Mercy's distinctive grace, having been conceived with the creative flair of AND+ Studios. Exuding a playful yet sophisticated vibe, the décor boasts splashes of colour, custom-made furnishings, and inviting timber hues, all nodding to Heaton's artistic milieu without forsaking Mother Mercy's chic appeal.

In close partnership with AND+ Studios, the Mother Mercy team has strived to forge a space not just of aesthetic beauty but also of function and hospitality, underscoring their dedication to crafting environments with soul and intent. On the eve of the launch, Neil Donachie, co-founder, expressed his enthusiasm: "This is a really exciting new chapter for us at Mother Mercy. We've always loved creating spaces where people can connect over incredible cocktails, and Heaton feels like the perfect place to serve our cocktails, while staying true to the essence of Mother Mercy. We're looking forward to becoming part of the Heaton community and sharing our creativity with the neighbourhood."
