Regis Le Bris reveals what pleased him most about Sunderland's 4-0 romp
After guiding his Sunderland team to second in the Championship table Régis Le Bris hailed the unity of the team. The head coach’s Black Cats side simply blew Sheffield Wednesday away at the Stadium of Light with an early three-goal burst and another just after half time against a team who had won their opener 4-0.
A double from Eliezer Mayenda, and goals from Dennis Cirkin and Luke O’Nien ensured the Lads made it two league wins from two, but the Sunderland head coach was pleased with the collective performance from the team.
“We started well because the idea was shared with the whole team,” he said. “I think we have many talented players, our striker for example.

“To achieve the goal, it’s not only playing your football, it’s also the way we can recover the ball, and the way we can defend our box, counter-press after we lose it. All these ideas around the team-work was very good this afternoon, so this is a good example to follow for the next games. I think the spirit has been very good in training sessions. At the end, the performance was better and we dealt with many problems, and we can win games.”
It’s early days and Le Bris warned: “It’s still unpredictable, but the team is ready to cope with all the problems and the opportunities you have on the pitch. I think we had the opportunity in this game, Sheffield wanted to build from the back so we were ready to intercept the ball in these positions so we used this opportunity to score and it was good for us.
“I will find many elements and phases of the game that we can improve, so for me, it’s still the beginning of the season and it’s OK with the dynamic but we have 44 games left. We’re happy with the start but we need the same mindset to improve our team.”
