Relentless Rangers see standards raised sky high as 'sloppy' moment dampens perfect start for boss - SWPL roundup

Rangers claimed a 6-1 win over Spartans but Jo Potter was irked at a rare moment of sloppiness as Rangers lost their first domestic goal of the season.

Spartans took a surprise lead when Erin Rennie capitalised on a defensive mix-up before Rangers swiftly retaliated. Camile Lafaix quickly bagged a brace to claim her first Rangers goals with Katie Wilkinson adding to the scoreline before the break. Rio Hardy chipped in after coming off the bench before Wilkinson netted her second of the day and Liv McLoughlin completed the scoring.

“That is not a performance we are happy to deliver,” Potter told Rangers TV. We spoke about eradicating silly goals. Things like that happen and to get two quick goals after it was very good. Camille’s two goals were important for us. Our performance levels weren’t there and it is important we use it to say that level isn’t acceptable. It is making sure we respond the right way. It changed the mindset for us at half-time but we need to make sure we aren’t putting ourselves in that position.

“The subs made an important contribution so there are definite positives to take but we have to make sure we are happy with performances. We are a competitive squad and we want people fighting for spots – and that will only intensify with players coming back from injury.”

Celtic claimed a comfortable win over Partick Thistle as Elena Sadiku rang the changes. The Hoops play Montrose on Thursday night before their Champions League double header as they look to make it into the group stages of the tournament.

Shannon McGregor claimed a brace with Murphy Agnew also adding to the goals. “Overall it was a really good performance,” said Sadiku. “I am very proud of how the team reacted today. We earned the win. We were, for me, brilliant. It was nice to get a good start with the goal. How we played and how we created chances was nice. The girls were hungry and had so much energy and played some amazing football.

“This is how we want to play – attacking football that is dominating. We want to keep the play, create chances and score as many as possible. The decision making was better and the defence were fantastic as well. We had everything under control there so I am happy. There are many people who talk about my rotation but I trust my players, I believe in my players. It was a different starting XI but they executed the game plan very well.

“We have a game now on Thursday and it will probably be another starting XI because we have a really intense schedule now ahead of us. So I am really happy with how everyone played.”

Second-placed Hearts had to be patient to claim the points against Aberdeen with second-half goals from Joely Andrews, Georgia Timms and Sade Adamolekun gave them the victory.

Glasgow City had Emily Whelan to thank as she scored the only goal of the game against a dogged Motherwell side at K Park. Grant Scott’s Hibs banished their derby defeat with a 6-1 win over Queen's Park.

There was a hat-trick for Eilidh Adams claimed a hattrick while Abbie Ferguson, Kathleen McGovern and Poppy Lawson also found the net. Chloe Muir claimed the consolation goal for Queen’s Park. Dundee United remain winless after Montrose snatched a late winner at Links Park.

Erin Henderson had given the hosts a first half lead before Alex Moodie had levelled the scores. Montrose grabbed victory in stoppage time courtesy of a Jade McLaren effort.
