TWO shoplifters have been arrested by police after village stores were targeted.

Cheshire Police made the arrests in Stockton Heath yesterday, Thursday.

Officers say that the suspects are ‘repeat shoplifters’< and the arrests come after a number of thefts were reported in the area recently.

As well as shoplifting, the force says it has received reports of bike thefts and the theft of cooking oil.

The force’s Stockton Heath Police team said: “We have visited some local businesses to discuss recent trending crimes in the area.

“Recently, we have had varying reports of theft including shoplifting, theft of cooking oil – currently a trending crime around the country – and theft of pedal cycles.

“This week, we have identified two repeat shoplifters who have targeted local stores within the Stockton Heath area.

“One of them is currently our guest at Northern Custody Suite waiting to be interviewed.”
