From Good Housekeeping

The Great British Bake Off will feature a shake up to its hosting team for the next series, as after three years hosting the show Sandi Toksvig has announced she is leaving the Bake Off tent.

The star is stepping down from her co-hosting position alongside Noel Fielding to focus on other work.

In a statement, Sandi said: "When stepping down from a job it is quite common for people to say they are doing so in order to spend more time with their family. Unusually I am departing from the Great British Bake Off so I can spend more time with my other work."

She added: "As my waistline will testify, Bake Off is an all-consuming show. Spending time with Prue, Paul and Noel has been one of the great pleasures of my life. These are friendships which I know will continue beyond the confines of television. Bake Off is a wonderful programme which has already proved it can happily withstand a change of hosting personnel. The reason for that, of course, is that the true stars of the show are the bakers themselves. I wish everyone well.”

The question remains: who'll replace Sandi as Bake Off host?

We talk through potential candidates...

Richard Ayoade

The IT Crowd actor and Travel Man host has a history of working with Noel - the pair have competed on Channel 4's Big Fat Quiz Of The Year together five times and their combined comedy clearly works well. Could Richard take the Bake Off hosting spot?

She's the long-standing host of Bake Off spin off show An Extra Slice and obviously loves the show. Could she make the move over to the main series?

Liam Charles

Bake Off alumni Liam Charles is another name in the mix. Since competing on the show in 2017 (and winning hearts across the nation), Liam has forged a presenting career on Channel 4's Bake Off: The Professionals. He's also appeared as a judge on Junior Bake Off.

Nadiya Hussain

Nadiya is one of the most beloved Bake Off contestants of all time and since winning the show in 2015 she's gone on to host a multitude of cooking shows on the BBC, grace many magazine covers and generally inspire with her candid social media posts about everything from family life to mental health. Could Nadiya return to the show that kicked her celebrity career off in a hosting capacity?

Sarah Millican

In 2016, comedian Sarah hosted a Sport Relief Bake Off special. Her warmth and wit makes her a strong presenter, so will she be back hosting in a more permanent capacity?

The comedy duo presented Bake Off before its famous move to Channel 4 and since leaving the show they have pursued other acting and presenting opportunities. Now there's an opening for a host, could one of them return to their GBBO roots?

The comedian and former Strictly star is another name in the mix. Her friendly demeanour would undoubtedly come in handy when encouraging and consoling contestants.

Davina McCall

Presenting royalty Davina is currently starring on the celebrity panel of ITV's The Masked Singer, but maybe she fancies swapping high notes for high temperatures in the Bake Off tent? She could surely turn her hand to whatever hosting challenge presents itself.

Rylan Clark-Neal

Rylan is without question having a career moment. As the host of Supermarket Sweep, Strictly: It Takes Two and Ready Steady Cook, you can barely turn on the TV without seeing the talented and fun presenter doing his thing. Maybe Bake Off is next on Rylan's list?

We'll have to wait and see who eventually replaces Sandi.

The good news is, we'll see Sandi hosting the much-loved British show one last time for The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer this spring.

The Great British Bake Off will air on Channel 4.
