Report: Kate Middleton, Prince William were scheduled to fly on doomed helicopter with their children

New reports reveal that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their family were scheduled to fly on the Leicester City helicopter just weeks after its tragic crash, which killed Leicester City owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and four others last October.

The crash, which was said to be caused by a mechanical error, occurred after it took off from King Power Stadium, killing all on board including its pilots Eric Swaffe and Izabela Lechowicz, who were engaged. Swaffe was hailed as a hero following the tragedy for maneuvering the aircraft away from the stadium and thus saving lives.

“They were scheduled to fly together again in November just a short time after the helicopter crashed," said Lechowicz's sister Kate to The Sun. Prince William, a former pilot, was said to be friends with Swaffe -- the two had flown together before.

Swaffe had allegedly spoken about how he was scheduled to fly the royal, Duchess Kate and their three children the following month. "William had told Eric, ‘Next time it will be with Kate and the kids,'" Kate continued.

Following the crash on Oct. 27, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge traveled to King Power Stadium to pay their respects.

"When the man that led this club to victory died so tragically, the people of this city revealed with their outpouring of admiration, that they too shared much of the character that was so central to who Vichai was," said Prince William in a speech to mark the tragedy last November. "In a time when our football clubs have become huge global enterprises, you came out to thank Vichai for making the fans the true owners of this club."
