The black and gold have completed another big bit of business this offseason.

On Monday night, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported that the Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed forward Rickard Rakell to a six-year, $30 million contract extension.

Pittsburgh acquired Rakell from the Anaheim Ducks prior to the trade deadline. The 29-year-old scored 20 goals and registered 21 assists for 41 points in 71 games split between the Penguins and Ducks last season.

The Sundyberg, Sweden native has 158 goals and 194 assists for 352 points in 569 career NHL games. His best season came in 2017-2018, when he put up a career-high 69 points.

Anaheim selected Rakell with the 30th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Draft.

Rakell's extension comes only hours after reports surfaced that superstar forward and Penguins' legend Evgeni Malkin would be testing free agency.

Last week, general manager Ron Hextall ticked off one of the top boxes in his offseason to-do list when he re-signed star defenceman Kris Letang to a six-year extension to keep his team's contending window open for a little while longer.
