Extratropical cyclone Talas lashed parts of Japan, killing three and leaving tens of thousands of households without power on Saturday, September 24, local media reported.

Shizuoka city was hit especially hard, with a record 419.5 mm (16.51 inches) of rainfall recorded since Thursday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

Three people were killed in landslides caused by the rain, and one person was missing, Your Shizuoka Newspaper said, citing local officials.

Power was also cut to 115,550 households as of Saturday afternoon, energy supplier Chubu Electric Power Grid said, after a landslide knocked over two electricity towers.
