Reps Cheer as Colombian Senate Approves Law Banning Child Marriage After 17-year Campaign
Colombian representatives erupted in cheers after the country’s senate approved a law prohibiting the marriage of minors on Wednesday, November 13, following a 17-year campaign to ban child marriage.
Footage posted to X by House of Representatives of Colombia member Alexandra Vasquez shows representatives cheering and hugging each other after finding out the law had been approved on Wednesday, after a lengthy debate. Vasquez and representative Jennifer Pedraza have been pushing the bill since 2007.
