Rescue crews were deployed to a road near the centre of Gloucester as floodwater had surrounded a house. Severn Area Rescue Association went to Sandhurst Lane which has been flooded in the wake of Storm Bert.

A number of flood warnings - which mean flooding is expected - remain in force along parts of the River Severn between Gloucester and Tewkesbury today (Saturday, November 30). River levels are set to remain high and the Environment Agency is monitoring the situation.

The rescue association, based at Sharpness, said it had been asked to help the resident to leave their home, which had become an island in the floodwater. It was called out on Friday, November 29 to the road which is prone to flooding.

The Environment Agency warning for Sandhurst and Maisemore reads: "River levels remain high at the Sandhurst river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall. Flooding is possible. We expect flooding to affect Coal Wharf and Riverside, Maisemore and Sandhurst Lane. Base Lane, Sandhurst also flooded. A417 Over to Maisemore may be closed due to flooding.

"We expect river levels to remain high over the next few days. We are closely monitoring the situation.

"Our incident response staff are checking defences and liaising with emergency services and Local Authorities. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded."

No rain is forecast on Saturday, but there could be some bursts of heavy rain on Sunday in Gloucester, according to the latest Met Office forecast. It has rain from 2am until 6am and then heavy rain from 6am to 9am and some lighter rain in the afternoon.
