A beautiful dog named Dobby, who suffered years of abuse, is now living her best life.

Dobby, a Havanese breed, spent the first three years of her life confined in a cage as a breeder at a puppy mill. Her new owners recently shared heart-wrenching photos from the day they adopted her, showing her 'hollow' and 'haunted' eyes that have moved many online.

She weighed a mere 8lb, almost half the average for her breed, and her fur was so matted it had to be shaved off.

Her owners remembered how she would cower at the back of her crate, refusing to come out even when she needed to relieve herself. The timid pooch would only venture out when no one else was around, but would quickly retreat at the sight of a human.

In a post on Reddit, the devoted pet owners have showcased the remarkable progress Dobby has made. She's put on weight, eats heartily, and her fur has grown back.

Most importantly, she's safe now.

"She's not a lapdog and may never be, but you've never seen a happier creature," the post reads. "She gets the zoomies every day. Her older 'brother' (an 18 pound Coton) is still teaching her the finer points of being a dog, and we're looking forward to many more wonderful months between now and her first anniversary with us."

Scores of animal lovers praised the owners in the comments section for adopting Dobby and giving her a second chance at happiness. "Oh, those eyes! She hasn't forgotten her past but she loves you very, very much," one user wrote.

One person remarked: "What a great transformation and story. The world needs more good people like you. Cute Dobby!" Another responded with commendation: "A great glow up! Cutie," and a further individual contributed: "She seems so much more at ease and comfortable in her body."
