This Rescue Dog Was So Scared Of Walkies She Had To Be Carried Outside

This adorable shelter dog was so traumatised by her past experiences that she flat out refused to go outside for walks.

Staff at Karma Rescue in Los Angeles were forced to physically carry pit bull Roxy into the sunshine when she cowered on the floor, refusing to move.

The pooch was found wandering the streets, where she had been living for some time, before she was picked up by animal control and taken to the city pound.

Traumatised: Roxy had to be carried outside from her kennel (Karma Rescue)

With no one to adopt her, Roxy’s future was looking bleak until Karma Rescue took her in - but they soon discovered that her experiences on the street had left her terrified of going outside.

However, after five days of refusing to move from her kennel, Roxy suddenly stood up and walked for the first time - when she saw a cat walking across the edge of the window.

Staff realised that the dog wanted to play with the cat, who was a permanent fixture at Karma Rescue, and began searching for a new home where she could live with a moggy.

Nervous: It took five days for the dog to go for a walk (Karma Rescue)

Glenn and Sharra Platt, who owned several cats, decided to take Roxy into their care and set to work getting her out and walking again.

Sharra told The Dodo: “She didn’t want to walk. She would walk 20 feet, then flatten and freeze. Or she would pull like crazy on the leash and go back and forth in front of us.

“It was like walking a drunken freight train. Everything out in the world terrified her — trash cans, cars, trucks and the wind.”

Happy: Roxy now loves running around in the sunshine like any other dog (Vimeo)

However, with help from a dog trainer, Roxy gradually found the confidence to go for walkies - and now runs about like any other happy pet.

Sharra added: "She still has fear when we bring her to new places but it’s nothing compared to what it was.

"Roxy is happy, healthy and the most loving, sweet dog I could ever imagine.”
