Rescue Orangutan Undergoes Surgery for Tumor

A 10-year-old orangutan in the care of Four Paws international animal rescue in Kalimantan, Indonesia, underwent a two-hour operation on March 7 after he was diagnosed with a tumor in his left testicle.

Robin the orangutan had the tumor and both testicles removed in the operation. Removed tissue was sent to a laboratory for tests to conclude if the mass was benign or malignant.

Four Paws wrote that the castration may make it easier for Robin to socialize with other orangutans in the future, and the animal rescue hopes to make room for some new companions for him.

Due to his being kept as a pet for most of his life, Robin cannot be released into the wild. Credit: Four Paws via Storyful
