Rescued Mountain Lion Cub 'Doing Well' at Oakland Zoo

A male mountain lion cub that was rescued and brought to the Oakland Zoo’s vet hospital in early August is “doing well,” the zoo said on Tuesday, August 13.

The cub, named Briar, was found in California’s El Dorado County by a local resident. After a thorough search for the cub’s mother, “the decision was made to save this orphaned cub,” the zoo said in a prior post.

Briar, estimated to be about five weeks old, has been “gaining weight steadily, sleeping well, and slowly transitioning from kitten milk replacer to solid food,” the zoo said. Credit: Oakland Zoo via Storyful
